Across the street from the weekly car meet in Merritt Island is a pretty good location that my friends and I have observed for years, but never bothered to shoot at. The Firestone Tire in Merritt Island keeps its fluorescent lights on under the entrance over hang all night. It’s a very well lit location, but it does present a number of challenges.
-The curbs that run along the lanes of the overhang create obstacles that can obscure the bottom portions of the wheels.
-The lights can create some reflections that are undesirable.
-The actual layout of the overhang can be a little restrictive.
-The horizontal lines of the overhang have to be perfectly aligned, forcing the photographer to be conscious of the perspective they are shooting.
I will probably head back there again. The lighting is pretty cool, and there are a few creative opportunities I missed last night that I’d like to take advantage of. All shots were taking with a Canon Rebel T1i w/ a 50mm f1.8.
